Valley Crossing Pipeline

The Valley Crossing Pipeline will transport reliable supplies of clean burning natural gas to the CFE—Mexico’s state-owned utility, serving approximately 37 million customers—and to other shippers at delivery points in South Texas.

This additional access to vital supplies of clean burning natural gas will promote economic development along the project route and in the region.

Valley Crossing’s transportation services will provide new market opportunities for Texas gas producers and help Mexico meet its growing electric generation needs as generators shift away from fuel oil and imported LNG.

Project overview:

  • Type: Natural gas pipeline
  • Status: Under review
  • Peak day capacity: 2.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d)
  • Expected to transport: Natural gas
  • Expected in-service date: October 2018

Project Information:

On June 13, 2016, Valley Crossing Pipeline, LLC, was awarded the 168-mile intrastate gas pipeline project by the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE)—Mexico’s state-owned utility serving 37 million customers—to provide natural gas transportation services beginning in 2018 to meet Mexico’s growing electric generation needs.

Valley Crossing is currently in discussions with a number of potential end users such as local distribution companies and power plants to install delivery points along the pipeline.  In addition, the Project will interconnect with several intrastate pipelines, providing new market opportunities for Texas gas producers.  These connections will promote further economic development along the Project route and throughout the region.

Valley Crossing has begun, and will continue, to work closely with the Texas Railroad Commission, US Army Corps of Engineers, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to acquire all permits required for the construction and operation of the Project.

Valley Crossing began surveying the route in June of 2016 and commenced construction activities in April of 2017.
